About the Artist

Nationally recognized, award-winning artist, Joanne Burney, was born in New York City at an exciting time for a young artist. Joanne Burney studied in various youth art programs before earning a B.A. in studio arts from Queens College, City University of New York and a scholarship to Provincetown Art Workshop.

Burney moved to Colorado and after years of doing commissioned portraits she turned her hand to painting trees as a way of paying homage to the magnificent natural landscape around her. She has also become known for her abstract work.

Working primarily in pastel, acrylic and oils, she has won numerous awards in national and international competitions, has been the focus of several feature articles in “The Pastel Journal” and “Artist Magazine”, and has done several corporate commissions, including for The University Park Holiday Inn, Ft. Collins, Colorado, Kodak West and Woodward Governor. She has shown around the country and has work in private collections from New York to California, including Alaska, and has collectors in England, Germany and France.

She was honored with inclusion into the book “Art Journey Abstract Painting, A Celebration of Contemporary Art”, published in 2017.
